I went to visit my Mother the other day at her home and found her busy in front of her laptop. But instead of playing computer games, she was in deep conversation with her neighbor Julia regarding the plan to reclaim PPI payment. Julia apparently is in need of cash because of several financial obligations that she needs to meet. She is consulting Mother because she didn’t know how to proceed. Her budget right now is so tight and she doesn’t have spare money to pay for the upfront fees that some lawyers were asking from her. She’s thinking of doing it herself because she believes that the she can use all her refunds for her needs, instead of paying 15 to 20 percent to hire the services of claims companies. Without discouraging Julia, Mother explained why it is to her advantage to hire a claims firm. Because she is a working mother, she cannot afford to be absent from work to attend the court hearings. Having a legal representative in court hearings is a practical choice considering the amount of work needed in filing a case and doing follow ups. In the end, Julia took my Mother’s advice to get professional help. She even recommended a firm that only charges 10% with no strings attached.
